Work Items

There are a number of things that don’t work quite how I want them to - with my blogs and in other technical areas.  This page is a handy place to list those work items.

General WordPress
  1. Figure out how to make the PHP mail function work on Windows.
Built-In WordPress Widgets
  1. Fix the built-in Tag Cloud widget so that tags don’t display on the same line as the title.
(Fixed in upcoming release of FallSeason v1.2.drp.3)
  2. Add RSS graphics on the built-in RSS widget.
(Requires new widget - I’m working on a new widget to address this.)
  3. Remove WordPress.org from the built-in Meta widget.
(Requires new widget - I’m working on a new widget to address this.)
WordPress Plugins
  1. Modify the Subscribe-to-Comments plugin to support the SMTP email method.
  2. Add a contact form to allow people to send email to me without posting a comment.
  3. Tell author of the InlinePosts plugin about bug I found.
  4. Find a way to add widgets to the sidebar only for registered users (e.g. admins).
    Currently investigating Ultimate Google Analytics.
  5. Find or implement a way to track visitors - not just the count but who.
New WordPress Plugins
  1. Investigate the Google Sitemap Generator plugin.
  2. Investigate the Auto Scroller plugin.
  3. Investigate the In Series plugin.
  4. Investigate the ShareThis plugin.
  5. Investigate excerpts plugins.
  6. Implement general purpose email plugin for selecting the default email method (PHP, Sendmail, SMTP) that can be used by other plugins (e.g. the Subscribe-to-Comments plugin).
WordPress Themes
  1. Add meta links to the footer of the FallSeason theme and make it selectable.
  2. Show posts as excerpts except the first one (or first n).
Note: Need a better auto-excerpting algorithm that allows some HTML tags to be retained.
  3. Figure out how to make comment shading include gravatars on the FallSeason theme.
  4. Same problem with the Akismet widget.
  5. Add the intro section feature to the Scattered theme.
  6. Update the SpotLight theme from Sadish Bala with all the changes I made to the FallSeason theme.
  7. Find a professional-looking theme for this blog.
  8. Find a theme that can be used for a music composer’s web site.
  9. Find a theme for the Catalyst Drama web site.
Other
  1. Add a widget for the Lijit search tool.
  2. Look into forum options.
  3. Modify my ASP.NET photos web site to store metadata in a database.
