To display all images in a single gallery, specify the gallery shortcode on a post or page.
[gallery=id]
id= the ID of the gallery (e.g. 1).
The gallery shortcode displays the thumbnails for the images in a single gallery on the post or page. The following options can be configured on the Gallery options page:
- Number of images per page. The default is 20. If 0 is specified all the images in the gallery will be displayed.
- Whether a slideshow link is included.
- Whether to show a description or the alternate title text with each image.
- Whether to display the gallery using the ImageBrowser viewer instead.
- Note that the ImageBrowser viewer can be specified explicitly so it is unnecessary to set that option.
- How to sort images.
These options can also be specified as custom fields on the post or page.
ngg_gal_ShowOrdergallery- Show the gallery firstslide- Show the slideshow first
ngg_gal_Images- 0-xxx - (integer) Number of images per page
ngg_gal_Sortpid- Sort thumbnails by image IDfilename- Sort thumbnails by file namealttext- Sort thumbnails by Alt / Title text
ngg_gal_SortDirectionASC- Sort in ascending orderDESC- Sort in descending order
ngg_gal_ShowDescriptionnone- Don’t show a descriptiondesc- Show the description textalttext- Show the Alt / Title text
ngg_gal_ShowSlide0- Don’t show a slideshow link1- Show a slideshow link
ngg_gal_ImageBrowser0- Show images directly1- Show images using the ImageBrowser viewer
Examples
[gallery=#]
Wishlist / Caveats
- It would be nice if the above options (e.g. number of images, whether to show a description, etc.) could be specified as parameters.
- It would be nice if thumbnail size could be specified.

Hi! Can you please show me an example on how to use the “ngg_gal_ShowSlide” option? Thanks…
/Per
May 14th, 2008 at 11:58 am
@Per - I’ll try to add an article on this at some point with images, but to set one of the options, when writing or editing a post or page, go to the bottom of the page to where it says Custom Fields. In that section there is a place to add a new field, the name of which is called Key. Specify name of the option as the key and the value you want for the value. Then click the Add Custom Field button. If you ever want to change it, you’ll need to click the Update button for that field.

Hi David!
well… i’m working in the WP 2.3.3, i’ve installed this plugin, but when I wrote the [ gallery=# ], or the [ album=# ] nothing happens. It’s interesting because i’ve create a gallery and an album; i’ve downlod the rotator and put the swf in the plugin’s archive too.
Maybe you could help me? Really thanks!
sorry for my bad english
May 28th, 2008 at 12:23 am
@Nicolas: Make sure you don’t include a space after the opening square bracket or a space before the closing square bracket. I had to include them here because there isn’t a way to escape them - I didn’t want the plugin trying to translate them.
May 28th, 2008 at 4:00 am
Really thanks David, this have resolve the problem!
Than you one more time!

I have noticed that the slideshow doesnt ever quite load nor shows, I see the same happening on your site as well.
June 4th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
Yes, it would be nice to have the description of the gallery displayed at the top of the page.
June 18th, 2008 at 6:30 am
I would like to know how to get a list of images outside of a page or post.
June 19th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
THANK YOU!!!!!!!! for the [ gallery=# ] post and replies! Geez, I was really frustrated, but now all is well, thanks again!
June 30th, 2008 at 10:24 am
@Chris - Hmm, I’ve seen that before, but it doesn’t appear to be consistent. At the moment it appears to show correctly when I view the page using IE7. Sorry I couldn’t be more help.
@Mike - Unfortunately there isn’t currently a way to do this easily, although it is still possible. It’s one of the suggestions I’ve made in the article. What you have to do is get the link to the image you want to display from the source, whether that is the thumbnail, the image displayed by a singlepic shortcode, or the full-size image. Then you have to use that URL in your post for an img tag. At that point you can insert an img tag pointing to that URL in the src attribut (i.e. <img src=”imgurl”>) and enclose that in a link tag (i.e. <a href=”linkurl”>).

Hi,
Thanks for the tutorial, it’s really useful.
However, I have a bug, or an problem. My Gallery and Albums only like to display at the bottom of pages. I can’t quite work out why it keeps moving itself down.
I was wondering if you had any idea what this problem could be?

check my temp gallery at
http://www.routinefly.com/test-gallery
You seem to be the man with the knowledge on nextgen gallery. i’m having two issues. first, my thumbnails aren’t displaying, even though they are being created. if you right click them and say show image you get them however in the gallery they do not display… could be a theme issue but i don’t know how that could effect it. secondly, in the extended view i’m getting thumbnails on the side and i don’t want them there. i want to be able to have images pop up, scroll through normally and disable right clicking but it seems to be very buggy. any advice would be great.
ps.
all of the flash viewers i tried were confined to a small box and wouldn’t display in the full window. i just wound up giving up on those and hoping that the normal viewer will work for me.
July 29th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
Hey,
I’m having a problem with thumbnails not showing up when I try and insert a gallery into a post. The thumbnails are just thin stripes as oppose to actual, you know, thumbnail images. Gallery works fine if I try and put it in a page, but won’t work for posts.
I’m at a complete loss on this one. Any help? I would appreciate it.

Hi David,
I was wondering whether you could please help me out here…
I want to insert a Gallery into a post, but I do not want the multiple images to be showed in my post. What I’m looking for is being able to add a single thumbnail into my post, but then when somebody clicks on the thumbnail it shows up the gallery. Is that possible with nextgen-gallery? If so, could you please give me some hints on how to do it?
Thanks
Héctor

Hi David!
thanks for the wonderful plugin. this is by far the best photo gallery plugin i have ever tried.
unfortunately, i can’t seem to make my gallery viewable. i have the same situation as Nicholas (the first reply here)
and i don’t have a space on my screen. its just “[gallery=1]” without quotes. but when i try to visit the page, its blank. the gallery isnt there.
do you have any other suggestions? thanks for your time.
August 3rd, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Hi David,
for additional information, i tried using “[album=1]” it worked. however what i want to display are all the images inside that album. hence the “album”.
again, thank you for time.

@rob
Hey Rob,
you probably have something in your current stylesheet like this: max-width: 100%; calling your max picture width. please loose this line of code. it helped me out!
Cheers!

I’m stuck here and need help please.
I created a new page and in the body I only put
[gallery=11]
It is not showing the actual gallery, only one global post made to all categories. Why? I have only one gallery with page id of 11, so it should work.
August 12th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
Finally getting caught up on comments. Sorry everyone.
@Samantha - Sorry, no idea why it would appear only at the bottom. It should appear where ever you place the shortcode, which is how it appears on my page.
@Rob - Sorry, no idea. Eric’s suggestion is probably a good one to investigate.
@J - Man, I’m not being very helpful today. The problem you’re having sounds very strange. You might try asking up on Alex Rabe’s forum.
@Héctor - One way to do this is to create a page that displays your gallery. Then use normal <a href=…> wrapping <img src=…> syntax to display the image and link to the gallery page.
What you’re really asking for here is to have more control over what happens when you click on an image. I’d love to be able to specify the reference URL. At present this isn’t available. Something to ask Alex about.
@Daryl - I’m not sure I completely understand the issue you’re having. If you specify [gallery=1] it will either display up to the number of images you specified on the settings page or display a slideshow if you have that configured. It will do this all on the same page. If what you want is to display a single image representing the gallery that allows you to click to display the rest of the images, an album is probably what you want. Let me know if I’ve misunderstood your issue.
@Chad - Hmm, very odd. How many images are in gallery 11? Not sure what you mean by “one global post made to all categories.”
August 13th, 2008 at 8:40 am
hello,
thanks for all the information on the plugin. But I have a question:
I am trying to call a gallery from inside a page template with a variable for the gallery id. Like this:
echo $value;
$showgallery = ‘[gallery=$value]‘;
$showgallery = apply_filters(’the_content’, $showgallery );
echo $showgallery;
But it doesn’t work. It only shows the gallery when $value is replaced by a genuine number.
Any thoughts on this ? I would appreciate it. Thanks.
August 13th, 2008 at 9:04 am
@Joke - This is a PHP thing. If you use double quotes, it will translate $value to its value.
August 14th, 2008 at 1:23 am
Hello,
thanks for the reply.
I tried the double quote thing in various combinations, but it still doesn’t work.
This should be possible though ?
August 14th, 2008 at 2:32 am
Never mind, i found it ! You need to use different code:
if (function_exists(”nggShowGallery”))
{ echo nggShowGallery($value); }
August 14th, 2008 at 9:19 am
@Joke - Okay, good. I realized once I saw your first message today that you can’t use a shortcode in PHP as it won’t get interpreted.
August 16th, 2008 at 6:35 am
Hiya. Thanks so much for the effort and time you put into all this. I’ve used it as a reference several times.
I’ve got NGG working with Lightbox on my site and there’s just one thing I can’t get figured out. On my photos page (http://engberts-kaya.com/photo-galleries) the thumbnails for the different galleries are all different sizes! In the galleries I’ve got them all set for square, but that doesn’t seem to apply to the album. Any idea why? (If they’re all uniform by the time you see this, that means I’ve figured it out somehow). Thanks for your time either way.
August 16th, 2008 at 8:50 am
David,
thanks for your answer.

August 16th, 2008 at 10:57 am
Hi David,
thanks again. I was able to do what you suggested. I tested it out on my testing blog and it works fine. I’ll implement it in my main blog. Thanks for the time in helping us here.
I found an example of exactly what I want to do, please visit this link
http://www.jejoueaugolf.com/?p=18
Once in that link click on the picture tree… you will see it takes you directly into a gallery (not other page). I was trying to do that but I couldn’t
I apologize to the owner of the blog above (the one I’m using for referencing my question, I hope I’m not offending him/her). I just saw a wonderful work that I want to learn how to do so.

Hey David,
Just wondering if you figured out a way to increase the “maximum” thumnail size parameter? Even the “maximum” size is too small for my website…..
thanks,
David.
August 23rd, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Geez sometimes I’m a dumb&ss, to resize thumbnails just go to Gallery>Options>Thumbnails>set size(in pixels)
Then you have to rebuild ALL your thumbnails in ALL galleries, which is a little time consuming.
thanks,
David

I am trying to figure out, how to display an image gallery say 3 x 3 within the sidebar. I keep seeing documentation for putting ONE image on the side bar. But not the entire image gallery. Help please!!

I would like to get the sidebar effect shown here…

Any idea? or is it possible at all? or unless we are David Potter :p
November 7th, 2008 at 9:48 am
Hi David!
Nice gallery! I´m trying one thing: When I set up a page with a tag like this: [album=MyAlbum,compact] it shows thumbnails of all galleries with names…
Everything ok, but I want some larger thumbnails for this. I specified a size of 250 x 180 Pixels for the thumbnails and this works well for the galleries.
But how to change the thumbnail size in the compact mode?
Thx so far.
November 9th, 2008 at 9:04 am
Love the plugin but I have some questions. I’m pretty new to the plugin of world of WP. So being wet behind the ears I had a question about the different gallery effects, namely lightbox. In the plugin options you state that thickbox is default when adding a gallery, “With the placeholder %GALLERY_NAME% you can activate a navigation through the images (depend on the effect). Change the code line only , when you use a different thumbnail effect or you know what you do.” but if you want to use another like lightbox you have to use this: rel=”lightbox[%GALLERY_NAME%]”
Where am I changing or putting “rel=”lightbox[%GALLERY_NAME%]“?
Thanks!

Hi David,
Your site has been very helpful. I am having a problem with displaying a gallery on a page. When the display “descriptions” or “alt/title” text option is selected the text is now wrapping around the image instead of displaying underneath the image. When I originally installed the plugin and set up galleries this wasn’t happening. I reloaded all the images because they were too large in size. Ever since I did this they titles are wrapping. Do you or does anyone else have a suggestion to fix this?
Thanks.
November 22nd, 2008 at 12:26 am
Hey there,
Is this plugin supposed to work across all browsers? The gallery shows up fine in both Firefox and Safari but not IE. In Firefox when you click on the individual image in comes up in a another box as a bigger photo. When I click on the same photo in Safari it opens up in a totally new window forcing the user to press the back button to get back to my photo gallery page.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Justin

ngg_gal_ImageBrowser in the custom fields doesnt seem to want to work for me. Am I correct in thinking that when I set that to 0 for a page with a gallery on it i.e [gallery=20] that it will show the full sized images instead of thumbnails. Cause if thats so it doesn’t want to work =(
November 29th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
Hi David,
I am having the same issue as Samantha; using the [gallery=#] in a post results in displaying thumbnails waaay down at the bottom– has anyone else had this issue? Is there a fix?
Thanks!

im still so lost. spent hours already trying to figure out where to add the tag [gallery=2].
i got my wordpress running, nggallery activated and made gallery in an album. please help.
is it in blog write post, post aread ? tried both visual and html.
December 19th, 2008 at 2:24 am
Ah! I finally got it to work for me. In the plug-in’s original description and reading up here as well, I thought that one had to put the code [gallery=x] etc. in the tag field, but you have to actually write that in the blog’s body!
However, I still have one problem. I see the pretty pictures on the blog post’s archive page, but it doesn’t work on the recent posts page. Any way to make it show there?
Thanks
Vin

Hi David,
Very nice plugin! I’m impressed!
But I see, it is stil under construction and I hope that next version of NGG wil be better and nicer.
If you want, I can help you with translation to polish.
Now I’m testing WP 2.7 with NGG 1.0.2 and theme based on oriental (http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/oriental). Of course, on Firefox everyfing is OK :), but on IE7 I detected one irritating problem:
If I have added album or gallery to the regular post - everything is OK. But the same album or gallery added to the page looks a bit stupid - all frames, titles and descriptions are in correct places, but thumbnails are shifted to the left side of www page and covers sidebar…
I’m not advanced programer and I don’t know, how fix this problem. I tried a few modification in CSS files, but without effects.
Any suggestions?
December 27th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Your site has been extremely helpful.
To add to your Wishlist/Caveats of things…. for me anyways
1. nggpage support for galleries embedded into a template page. Currently, links referring to pages beyond 1 when viewing thumbnails only work when the gallery is embedded into a post.
2. random image viewing specified to a single gallery. There is a random image feature as indicated at http://nextgen.boelinger.com/2007/05/24/new-widget-support/ , but no specifics for album(s) or gallery(s).
Other than that, this is a fine tool for any blogger.

Hello david,
Just wanted to ask, when I use the Add gallery > import image folder button and try to put in all the images on my website, the gallery ends up arranging everything by ID/name instead of by the latest pictures, so everything’s like jumbled.
Is there any way that I can import/arrange them such that the latest image appears as the first image in the gallery, aka all the images are arranged by date uploaded? (Other than manually uploading each picture)
January 9th, 2009 at 7:22 am
I seem to be having a problem with the gallery in that only one photo is displayed in the post, no matter what value I have set in the Options > Gallery > Number of Images per page. It doesn’t matter if I set the value to 0 ( to show all images), 4 or 6. A gallery still only displays one photo on the page, with the menu underneath. Any ideas about that?
January 14th, 2009 at 6:30 am
Hi, I was wandering if it is possible to show recent Categories or album Title from nggallery?
January 19th, 2009 at 1:37 pm
Need to update the shortcode from gallery to nggallery. thanks.
January 19th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
Not sure “ngg_gal_ShowDescription” works - any thoughts? Searched the code and it’s only referenced in a table of values - no code to act on it!
January 19th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
hey david! Tried this piece of code out to place a gallery slideshow in my page template:
I get the gallery to run, but it shows photos from all my galleries. How do i get it to show a specific gallery only?
January 20th, 2009 at 7:59 am
ghr = add “id=#” where # is the id of the gallery you want to display
January 25th, 2009 at 10:18 am
Hi,
When I click on any thumbnail in my gallery the image showing up is cut by half at the bottom of the screen. Any ideas why that is on how to fix it?
Thanks,

Hi
How can I get the prev/next option when one clicks on the thumbnail image? I simply get the image in full mode.
What am I missing?

Hi David, thanks for the help! I was quite lost without it!
Just want to specify that I did actually have to rename to nggallery.
However, is there any reason your site is so slow?
Thanks again!
February 5th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
Yes, and I have the same problem as Samantha and Trevor. The nggallery shortcode results in pictures being displayed waaaaay down the page, too. Any solution for this?
February 8th, 2009 at 10:03 pm
Can you tell me why this works: http://www.parkguitars.com/gallery/?
and this doesn’t: http://www.parkguitars.com/gallery/
February 12th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
@ Dan - I’m not sure if this is the best way but to stop the pictures being displayed in one long column I added this into my style.php:
.thickbox { float:left; }
And then added the following into my index.php directly after the image search function to stop the heading below the images to float left.
Hope this may help…

Hi there,
Great website and guide. Thanks very much for your help!!!
However, i do have a few questions:
1) If i upload an image into the gallery, than use the same image from the gallery to upload into my post, does that mean that i only have a copy of the file on my page? As opposed to 2 copies if i upload the same image into my post and then into my gallery again separately….. (hope my question is clear)
2) I want a gallery that shows all my thumbnails but then with the option of browsing them based on tags…..is that possible with next gen?
February 24th, 2009 at 6:03 pm
hi there,
i have a gallery exactly the one you have on this page. however, when i click on to the thumbnail, it shows the image in a blank page.
it does not display like how it display on your webpage. I want the image in a pop-up window in the middle of the page and the page behind goes dark…
please help….it used to work but as i tested it today…it didn’t work. what should i do?
cheers!

What can I do? Please help.

Hi David,
I’d like to insert a slideshow in a page. I tryied to do it with the button in the wysiwyg editor but it doesn’t work. So I tryed writing manually the tag [slideshow id=1 w=10 h=10] but it doesn’t still work.
I tryied also to copy imagerotator.swf in the plugin folder, replacing the same file which was there yet. It doesn’t still work.
How can i do?
March 19th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
Message for hoctor
I have achieved what you were asking about in using nggallery tags… you said ….
—————
I created an album with a name like post yymmdd so that i can identify which post the album is referenced by. Then i add just the one gallery to the album, and specify for e.g.
View Photo Gallery of Hookipa Waves and Scenery : [album=18,compact] in my post and i see just one thumbnail image, and when clicked it goes to the page linked to by my gallery which containg [nggallery id=# template=captions].. see my post for an example…
link to post is -> http://www.anitaharris.com/big-maui-waves-and-landscapes-at-hookipa/

Thanks for all your work on this guide…it really shows!
One comment…
You CAN set the size for the thumbnails…in the gallery, go to the “options” then “thumbnail” section to set the size (default thumbnail size: 100 x 75).

Hi David,
I recently upgraded Next Gen and am kicking myself as it has gone haywire and now all my galleries (as slideshows) are displaying with a black bar around the bottom and the side. I change the size and it doesn’t do anything…I am new to this plugin and it was working really well till I upgraded.
You can see it in two slideshows here: http://joydrive.ca/category/costa-rica/
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Hi,
I have quick question, when I put [gallery=1] in my page it works fine. If I try and do the following (suggested on http://nextgen.boelinger.com/templates/caption/) and type [nggallery id=1 template=caption] in order to show captions under my thumbnails I no longer can see my thumbnails I’ve tried
[gallery id=1 template=caption] no luck there as well. Is this possible? I read above and tried [gallery id=1 ngg_gal_ShowDescription=alttext] as well as
[nggallery id=1 ngg_gal_ShowDescription=alttext] and none of these worked.
Any suggestions?

How do you remove the [View with PicLens] link in the gallery view?
April 19th, 2009 at 4:18 am
I can’t believe it. A plugin with clear, precise and easy to follow instructions! Thank you SO MUCH. No hacking required. It worked as soon as I installed it. Brilliant. Absolutely BRILLIANT! Thanks again.

Hi - I wonder if anyone can help me. I am using NGG throughout my site. I have tried changing the CSS on my wordpress panel but nothing changes. I would like to centre my galleries as they currently push to the left side of content column; and I would like to change colours. I can see code in Wordpress plug in screen but can’t change it in actuality. Any ideas; please? Thanks very much.
April 20th, 2009 at 10:01 am
OK - I have changed my colours; put it all in mmy custom CSS. But nothing I change seems to center the gallery. Have got rid of “left” where see it and tried changing margins but still galleries sat to left. How do I centre please? Thanks very much!
April 20th, 2009 at 11:44 am
I’ve fixed this; actually has to change margins on individual thumbnails, not gallery overview! For anyone else wanting to center them, playing with this code worked; and I added some more space between images too.
.ngg-gallery-thumbnail img {
background-color:#FFFAF0 ;
border:1px solid #CDB38B ;
display:block;
margin:10px 0px 10px 20px;
padding:5px;
position:relative;

I am having an issue with my gallery. If you look at http://www.purepowerphotos.com, a few of my galleries (2009 Strongman Classic @ Metroflex Gym and Ronnie Coleman’s Workout Weekend @ Metroflex) went “missing”. The gallery is there, but the pictures will now not display. I have worked with my web design guy, but we can’t figure it out. I can delete pictures, re-upload and they still show missing. Any help would be appreciated.

In case any one else is wondering how to insert slideshow/gallery into template via PHP, here are some tags:
Insert slideshow that pulls images from gallery 1, force height to 171 and width to 227
You obviously want to change those numbers to accommodate your design.

HI All
I’m new to WP and obviously NextGen. I am building a site for my wife’s drama group, I’d like to have a page with a list of photos for their annual performances and each link to a collection of photos of each individual performance. So I have an album, which contains galleries for the shows - only one at the moment until I get it sorted.
But I can’t get the album to link to the gallery. If I add a page for the gallery then it appears as item in my main navigation bar. I don’t know what I am doing wrong… anyone advise please?
Cheers
Andy

Hi there. I am very new at this. I too would like to center the gallery. Is there an easy way to do this? For example, when I write [gallery=#] in my post, is there some other code I can write to center the gallery?
If it has to be done via the nggallery.css file, while part do I edit? What are the specifics to enter?
Thank you.

I have succesfully uploaded images and have a gallery published on my page. However it will not allow me to view all of my images via the numbers or the arrows. I am able to view all images with the piclens. Is there a setting I am missing?

Thanks for these great instructions on using nextgen. Very helpful!!!

Is it possible to make the ‘description’ field as an url?
July 1st, 2009 at 3:43 am
Is it possible to have galleries with different sized thumbnails? I change the settings to 100×100 and create new thumbnails in a gallery and the settings apply to all my galleries. I have 3 galleries currently and I would like to have 72×72 thumbnails for gallery1 and 100×100 thumbnails for gallery2. Is this possible?
July 8th, 2009 at 9:57 am
Hey, very good instructions, thanks! But I have a question:
I want to show the latest images, but only the latest images of one special gallery. Is that possible? Or is it only possible to show the latest images of all galleries?
July 10th, 2009 at 11:53 am
Hi!
I installed nextgen, according all instruction.
Created gallery, added some pictures - all things were pretty nice.
But when created the page and added this simple code: [nggallery id=1] (or [gallery=1]),
problems began:
gallery appeared, but images on click are displayed on a blank page only.
In my admin all is ok, nevertheless.
It seems, javascripts aren’t loaded at this page.
Wat’s wrong, can me help plese?
Thank you.

More info:
every thumbnail has
onclick=”return hs.expand(this, { slideshowGroup: ‘main’ })”
the js error message is: “Undefined variable: hs”
I cann’t find, where is this object created?
And why is it not created authomatically?

I like the way your pictures display when you click on them.
Like this. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y203/blackagave/one.jpg
Instead of this. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y203/blackagave/two.jpg
What setting affects this?
August 12th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
I noticed that this same question was posted by Fernie on 2/27/09, but without a response.
I’m trying to add a gallery, but I’m getting this message “Directory wp-content/gallery/ didn’t exist. Please create first the main gallery folder ! Check this link, if you didn’t know how to set the permission : http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions”
What are my options to be able to get this to work?

@Samantha
@Trevor
@Dan
We were having the same problem and discovered
that the sidebars were causing it.
Once we moved both sidebars to the same side
of the theme, the gallery pulled to the top
immediately. If your theme allows you to
customize the sidebars, try moving both to one
side and see if that doesn’t fix the issue.

Hello, I love this plug-in. I’m trying to hard-code each of my galleries into the php files…so I can’t use the [nggallery id=x] because it’s not being added via the CMS. I have a different area on each page I’m wanting to show the galleries…the are is NOT within the content area…can you tell me what code I would use in the PHP file to pull in each gallery? Thank you so much!

Hi. Can anyone point me to a more basic tutorial on using NextGen. I cannot get my images to display on my website. I am missing some very basic information, I think.
Thanks.

Hi. I want to have a page for my gallery using your NextGen plugin. It works great as my sidebar widget but I really don’t have any idea how to make my images appear in my “gallery” page. I want it to look this way:
http://nextgen.boelinger.com/nggallery/page-4/images/
Can you tell me what do I need to tweak on my template? Or any tutorial which will suit my understanding? This is a personal blog and I just installed Wordpress by myself so I really am a newbie with website-making.
Thanks.

I would also like to have a single thumbnail displayed when adding the [ gallery=X ] to a post…
Then clicking that thumbnail should open the whole gallery?
Is that done with “images=X” parameter? How is the right syntax?
Tnx

I am having the same issue as a couple others. I have the default install, and my thumbnail links are broken. I can click them and see the pic, but I can’t see the thumbnail. I’ve tried manually creating and naming them on top of everything else to no avail. Am I overlooking where the answer to this scenario is?
October 6th, 2009 at 6:47 am
Oddly, it seems to be case sensitive. I renamed it manually and it is working now. I wonder why it isn’t creating them for me, though. I seem to have to create them myself. I’m using the default pathing

Everything works perfectly for what I need and I’ve been able to customize whatever I’ve needed so far. The only issue I am having is finding a way for the gallery to click through to multiple pages while viewing them at full size. I have 5 images displayed with multiple pages attached to that gallery but every time you click on an image you can only scroll through the 5 that are displayed on that page. Is there a way to scroll through every image in that gallery before closing out the image?

My gallery background is dark but transparent, you can text in the background.
How do I make the background black and not transparent?

I have the flash slideshow working, but I can’t get the carousel to work as he displayed here:
http://nextgen-gallery.com/templates/carousel/
It just shows the generic slideshow instead. Do I need another plug-in to get the carousel to work?
Thanks!

On October 13th Brakbabord asked “template=caption will not work and description is not showed. Looks like ShowDescription does not work.” I have the same problem and can’t find any answers.
I’m using WP 2.8.5. with NextGEN 1.3.6 on Atahualpa 3.4.4 theme with the gallery list on fixed page http://lloydrmajor.com/wp/gallery with no sidebars.
Caption template is called with [nggallery id=4 template=caption] but not showing captions. I’d be happy with just titles or with descriptions.

I’m having the same issue as Darren and Vivec…when you click a thumbnail, it goes directly to a blank white page displaying the image file, rather than bringing up the flash image presentation/navigation as it’s supposed to. please help contribute to the conversation/solution here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/330721

Hi David,
It’s about NextGen Gallery plug-in…
Is there any way to make thumbnails in the gallery unclickable? I just need to make a list of images without “onclick open image” opportunity…
Will be glad to hear any solution!

Hi David,
I like your Gallery plugin, but am wondering if there is one extra option that would make it more suitable for my sites:
- In gallery mode… when an image is clicked and opens enlarged with that black background behind it… is it possible to have the “next” and “previous” buttons to be on both sides of that image, instead of underneath it?
Thanks a lot

Hello, and thanks for this great tutorial. I was wondering if any of you have done this.
I have my gallery working nicely with the carousel template, but I need to change the first image display.
The way it is now is that I have 9 thumbnails below the current image which is by default the first one.
What I want is to keep the same order on the thumbnails, but instead of selecting the first image by default, I want it to select the 5th one.
I’m sure it can be done with a simple php tweak, but I’m not very good at it.
I found this line which brings the first image on the gallery:
// Populate galleries values from the first image
//$first_image = current($picturelist);
Is there any way I can change the “current” to something like current +5 or something like this?
Thanks for any help.
